To shave or not to shave? That is the question. A fun subject.

when we moved up to pa back in late april the first thing i did when we got here was to grow a beard.

not a full face beard just around the mouth beard.

i love the look but my wife although she thinks i look good with it does make me look older because it is grey.

Every gal is different ADD...and I have sensitive skin, so I understand if your wife's face gets irritated by a beard- from my experience "many kisses" sometimes rubs my delicate face raw, and there have been times where I can't go out in public for a while after a "many kisses" session because it obviously looks like my face has been rubbed raw (looks like windburn or a rash)

But I digress....I love Coffee Shop Guy's beard, I call it my loofah- it comes in handy in the shower and many places

So I chime in with the advise of mix it up! Shave it now...grow it again when the mood strikes you. We ladies like variety, and so do you men outside of the WT (where it doesn't matter what standards of "dress and grooming" you adopt)

Why So Many Young People Are Leaving The Watchtower

i have been giving a lot of thought to the young people who are leaving the watchtower organization in recent years.

last night, i was reading the thread posted by jwfacts a while back in which he provided some statistics and graphs showing the rapidly declining growth in the watchtower.

one factor that was discussed at length was the high number of young people who do not stay in the organization.

This post also really struck a cord with me....everything you all have contributed in describing the typical JW upbringing is true and happened to me-

Now I hear my fiance (nonJW) describe his childhood with happy church group trips and the fellowship with other young people his age....it sounded like in those trips you could really connect with others- leave the worries of school and home behind & have fun being a kid- I am jealous that I never got that....

He is a well adjusted adult who can talk with strangers, be comfortable with groups, and carry himself among friends with confidence...I am totally the opposite & I feel bad because he has such a desire to be social (and why wouldn't he, he has good experiences to rely on)- I just clam up when I get into a group or social situations.

The WT organization did nothing to make me feel like a valuable member, I was just a girl, and my dad was inactive so I was at the bottom of the food chain. Any elders that did try to take an interest in me did not carry on for long because as others have posted...elders are so busy & don't have the time to really committ to the job that a paid youth pastor would do in any church in christendom.

I also agree with others, those dusty old men in bethel will never get it because they have locked themselves in their ivory tower willingly and wholeheartedly.

What % of each JW talk do the dubs listen to?

not sure how long the sunday sermon is now, maybe 30 mins?

how much of that are people listening to?.

the kh is stuffy, the kids at the back of you is kicking up a fuss, the kid at the front of you is choughing all over the place, theres several hotties to your left , to your right theres that asshole jerk who really upset you last week, you just remembered on the way back home you've got to get some food in from the shops, and you must remember to speak to brother so and so about this that and the other, and also you need to remind sister example about that stuff, shit!

Very accurate depiction of how the brain works during the meetings highdose....I would include the sexual fantacy I would play out in my head in order to pass the time that I had to sit still during the meetings (when I was a horny teenager)...I would wonder if the speaker noticed the weird smile I would have on my face-

and any part that included public comment I would try to answer as early as I could- then I looked like a good dubbie to mom and the other JW drones...and then my mind could drift off again to Dean Cain, Harrison Ford, or whatever "heart throb" I was into at the moment (never other male dubs...yuck)

the latest being an experience related to the jws at my local hall (a friend of mine who still goes told me).

Interesting topic....thank you for setting the record straight, living in MI I remember also hearing those "encouraging experiences"- and having no idea what conditions were like in GZ had no way to discredit their story...although I thought it sounded hokey at the time

I want to fade but ...

i need an advice.... has been 2 months since i went to a meeting and or field service, i received a call from an elder saying that he wants my monthly report , i dont know what to do coz he is been calling me for 4 days now i dont want to answer the phone, but at the same time i feel like just sending the report.

the question is, should i fade slowly or just stop ?

my family isnt jw only my mom is inactive..

There's nothing wrong in ignoring....you do not have to talk to anyone that you do not want to- especially if there are no strings attached (JW family)

How do i overcome this guilt and fear?

ive recently decided not to be a witness anymore and at the age of 28 was still so afraid to tell my parents.

the truth is their life and knew i would hurt them.

ive had such a battle with the elders and because my dad is an elder its even worse.

I also know exactly how you feel- I have been out for 2 years now (seems unbelievable to me)... I remember two years ago the thought of telling my parents and family that I wanted to leave would give me a panic attack. I couldn't eat, couldn't sleep, I was so unhappy inside the organization that I prayed to Jeh everyday to die. I knew that was wrong and finally I got to a point where I could not go on, something had to happen, I had to get out.

everyone has given the advise that I would give myself...when I first came to this forum I was still reeling from my decision to leave....I made a plan, I wrote my mom a letter explaining that I had to leave- I told the elders...they tried to get me to write a letter to DA myself, I lied and told them that I still believed in the "truth"- that got me out of being DFd for apostasy, but I still did at the time held onto the belief that I would die at armageddon-

it took comming here and taking everyone's suggestions to read the books to really start deprogramming my guilt and fear-

it takes time, patience....you may not believe me now but the reality is that armageddon is not comming...You do have time to research and find the truth for yourself, you do have time to make your own life, you do have time to achieve happiness in this life

so please take some deep breaths and start reading, we are here to help you if you need to make a plan to fade

It has been a year since I started school an update

well this time last year i was waiting for my first semester at college to start.

i had no idea how i would do in my classes.

my first semester was a complete surprise for me because not only did i do it, but, i did it well ending up on the dean's list with a 3.57 gpa for the semester.

Molested in 53 another JW Casualty

i have a relative who is now about 73 is a really cool, smart old guy a paul newman look alike who has led an interesting and successful life, traveled the world and raised a large family.

he was raised as a witness by his mother whose husband left the family when she became a witness.

many of his siblings and relatives have gone on to be circuit overseers, gilead grads and bethelites but he left the truth when he was in his teens.

Thank you exwhyzee for sharing his story, it was heartbreaking to read and try to put myself in his shoes...I cannot fully imagine exactly what he had to go through mentally...& he had to do it all on his own

he is a survivor and I agree he should write his story down someday
